virt-manager complains about missing KVM

virt-manager gives the following warning when I start to create a virtual machine:

---cut here---

Warning: KVM is not available. This may mean the KVM package is not installed, or the KVM kernel modules are not loaded. Your virtual machines may perform poorly.

I have installed package qemu-kvm and lsmod shows that kvm kernel module is loaded. I'm using Debian stable. What is wrong?
