There are more than several ways to use wifi right now, I haven't used
them all.
https://wiki.debian.org/WiFi/HowToUse

We should probably add the networkd that is built in to systemd now. I
haven't used it, and don't really have documentation handy. The best I
have found is man systemd-networkd I will probably get around to it
someday.

I have a similar device, pretty good, requires no firmware but weak
scanning compared to others. Mine is an old, old Netopia rt2500usb
dongle. I've used it with ifupdown, and also with networkmanager
(needs wifi.scan-rand-mac-address=0) and it's okay. Not my favorite.

Basically, I have only used three methods, ifupdown, wpa_cli, and
networkmanager.

They all really have different uses, depends if you need a mobile
solution? need a gui? use vpn? Will the connection always be up?

This kind of question is like saying, "What topping should I put on my
pizza?"
