Sound devices.

Hi,

sox is installed and
  play /usr/share/sounds/ekiga/ring.wav
produces the sound.

According to https://wiki.debian.org/SoundFAQ
  cat /usr/share/sounds/ekiga/ring.wav >/dev/dsp
should also. In fact it gives nothing but the command prompt.

Also,
root@dalton:~# ls -ld /dev/snd/b*/*
-rw-r--r-- 1 root root 258228 Feb  8 11:20 /dev/snd/by-id/usb-0d8c
lrwxrwxrwx 1 root root     12 Feb  8 09:45 /dev/snd/by-id/usb-0d8c_C-Media_USB_Audio_Device-00 -> ../controlC0
lrwxrwxrwx 1 root root     12 Feb  8 09:45 /dev/snd/by-id/usb-0d8c_C-Media_USB_Headphone_Set-00 -> ../controlC1
lrwxrwxrwx 1 root root     12 Feb  8 09:45 /dev/snd/by-path/pci-0000:00:03.0-usb-0:2:1.0 -> ../controlC0
lrwxrwxrwx 1 root root     12 Feb  8 09:45 /dev/snd/by-path/pci-0000:00:03.2-usb-0:1:1.0 -> ../controlC1

And,
cat /usr/share/sounds/ekiga/ring.wav > /dev/snd/by-path/pci-0000:00:03.0-usb-0:2:1.0
cat: write error: Invalid argument

Invalid argument? It's a sound device.

Seems either the wiki is outdated or there is a snag in the system. Ideas?

Thanks,            ... Peter E.
