OK, thanks Cousin Stanley and Farmer Joe, so
the short answers to my question "how do I draw
an approximate rectangle and then set the
properties to the measured values" is
1. don't do it, and 2. use the command line.
The command line doesn't look that powerful (a
tiny box in the bottom-right corner) but I'm
glad there is one. More than meets the eye.
