How can I download and save it?

Example:

# vlc Why\ making\ energy\ from\ dirt\ might\ save\ the\ world\ _\ Rusty\ Towell\ _\ TEDxACU-jDqCpfVwdP4.mkv

Is there some way to pause a video if I'm interrupted?

Depends on your player, but ... Yes.
