Hi Richard, try to boot from super-grub-disk by using its kernel. If your debian boots on the harddrive boots, run update-grub on the booted system. This should fix your harddrive. Super-grub-disk has also some options, to restore grub. If this all fails, you can try the same way by using RIP-Livefile (aka Rescue- is-possible livefile cd.) These are my preferred rescue tools.
