Bit late to the party here (I deleted the other messages, just clean up regularly, no time, etc.).

But the original RaspBerry Pi was not a clunky unit. They just betrayed their own form factor because they wanted to add more ports, and kept turning it into something that it originally was not. The RaspBerry Pi model A is definitely not a clunky but rather an elegant unit.

However they barely redesigned the form factor while adding dual USB ports and of course the ethernet port. This resulted in the clunkyness but this is just because they didn't really redesign their case, their form factor, to deal with the new ports that they originally perhaps had not anticipated or even consciously decided not to include.!

So the RaspBerry Pi we have now is like a malformed product because the original was perfect and then they added stuff that didn't belong there, but they didn't design the new (or redesign the new) form factor from the ground up with those ports in mind. So it is a bit of an ugly child, it has 3 arms but was only designed for 2.

That is why today it is too high with respect to its other dimensions.
