Re: Debian testing randomly freezes

Is this not the right list for these kinds of questions?

Hello.

I've been using Debian testing for over a year without problems, but 5 or 6 months ago I started experiencing random hard freezes where I needed to reboot my laptop through the power button.

I even bought a new laptop, hoping the problem would go away, but it has persisted.

Yesterday I decided to do a dist-upgrade to see if the problem would go away, but to no avail.

I was able to recover from a freeze using Alt+SysRq+k, but I couldn't find anything meaningful to me via dmesg or syslog. I noticed ALSA crashed once, just when the system froze (see here https://gist.github.com/n2liquid/9e4073b64ad2b7c2fdb7adf591439f0d), but I've disabled pulseaudio and removed snd_hda_intel and the problem has persisted.

I thought I was on the right track there because I noticed a slight connection to IM sounds playing and system crashes / freezes, but it also seems to happen at random; even with no audio module loaded.

System crashes occur most reliably when I run more intense applications, such as VirtualBox, but also on apparent low load as I mentioned.

I have no idea what information I should tell you to help you help me here. Could someone please tell me that?

My CPU is an Intel Core i3 6100U, GPU is Intel HD graphics 520.
