Ok, that's clarified, I think, what you mean by DE. You want (I'm
guessing) a machine to come up with its full Desktop Environment as if
the user "myexperiments" had sat at the console and typed in their
username and password.

I have no idea why you wrote "Power on yields operating system."
(Unless you meant No BIOS Password and No Grub Password, so that
linux itself boots when you power up.)

And that's the trivial part, the non trivial part is locking down the
browser and DE so that the rest of the system is inaccessible by the end
user.

I would search google about setting up a kiosk system.

I know that various people have suggested that Richard may mean a kiosk
system, but how does the above quotation from him mean that?

That's a best guest. Richard has already said that he want's to boot to
a browser without human interference,

No. I didn't. Really I didn't ;/
The OP asked how to "make system boot straight to browser connection".
The replies fell in three general groups:
  1. use kiosk mode
  2. A. set system for autologin
     B. start browser, go to desired page
     C. save session in Xfce
     D. on next power up, system would go to desired page
  3. my rephrasing of the question

The OP's question appeared to be a subset of one of mine. I did a web search for "kiosk mode". The pages I read indicated its setup was too restrictive for my use pattern. The assumed environment is a machine in a public space set up to safely respond to ignorant and/or malicious 'finger poking'. The "save session" approach did not seem suitable from the opposite direction. I wanted a specific program/script to be executed on power up. When that task finished, I would have other tasks on an as needed basis.

[
A possible [tough FICTIONAL] scenario could be:
   at a remote data collected and saved to flash drive
   return to home base
   insert flash drive, power up, do number crunching on latest data
   examine results
   take appropriate action as determined by examiner
]

and so I assume[1] that he wants
someone to be able to browse the web without "messing" with the rest of
his computer.

That's a best guess from the information he's given us.

[1] I know, if you assume you make an ASS out of U and ME (yeah, I remember
Benny Hill.)

That predates Mr. Hill being old back when I was young.
