Turns out it was a silly configuration issue. Both wicd and network-manager seem to use wlan0 as the default interface, and for some reason the wireless interface was eth1, switching to it solved the issue. On top of that the Fn+F5 key really isn't working, which just made things more confusing. Thanks for the help y'all.
