For some days now, localhost has not responded to anything. I've tried everything, and am stumped. Here are a few indications:
ifconfig shows lo is working:
lo Link encap:Local Loopback

ping gets no response:

I've replaced /etc/hosts with a known-to-work version.
systemctl status cups show cups and cups.socket are running:
Aug 24 13:29:34 ctoo systemd[1]: Started CUPS Printing Service.
Aug 24 13:29:34 ctoo systemd[1]: Starting CUPS Printing Service Sockets.
Aug 24 13:29:34 ctoo systemd[1]: Listening on CUPS Printing Service Sockets.
I've tried everything I can think of, and hints regarding what to try next would be higholy welcome.
