Source and binary could differ (not allowed, but they could differ
illegally) and even if they won't, on kernel.org the source is under
watching of a huge community, this is the only way to ensure that there
is no backdoor part of the source.

To release the source code is important for several reasons, but IMO
small distros with no money shouldn't be forced to make all the source
code available by a repository. For "Phoronix Media", "the largest
Internet media company devoted to enriching the Linux hardware
experience" [1], this perhaps isn't an issue? However, they are a third
party and seems to have some interests, while I don't know what their
interests are.
