I am still learning. And I am not that strict on space as I have a 750GB hdd, but still that was a very knowledgeable fact.

I have set aside 100 GB as free unallocated space.

As I said I am still learning. :)  thanks for the useful pointers.

So I should officially mark this thread as solved.

1)I found out what are the various folders in the linux file system are used for, in a more practical discussion.

2)I found out some pros and cons of different Desktop Managers and Window Managers.

3)I found out the various different partitioning schemes and also figured out why LVM was so good for me. I also created the partitions myself after learning about them.

4)Also I revived my almost dead hardisk after important inputs from you guys.
