If this is a one-time thing and is also about showing him stuff in a 
terminal I would use screen.

You could set it up to be used as his login shell and with -x you can 
see everything he is doing. You can also 'chat' in the same terminal if 
you use # to start the line and a convention like 'press Enter twice 
when you're done'.
