Does the screen lock when you run

$ xflock4

?

What screen saver do you use? Even a lock without screensaver not
necessarily has to be done by xflock4, it depends to the software you
did install for those tasks, it might be gnome_thingy_foo_bar_server or
what ever. It might be that no screenserver, no screen lock is
installed.
