For instance, /dev/dvd might become /dev/dvd1 on your new system. If an application is set to look for /dev/dvd, it will never find it. The files in /etc/udev/rules.d get recreated on boot, so deleting them is usually no big deal. But maybe better to rename them *.bak just in case... -Rob
