Good news: this bug was fixed for sid on Aug 23 http://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=666869 It's actually in "software-properties-gtk", which is started by synaptic when you click on "Settings → Repositories" Checking whether this is something that could be considered for backporting to a stable point release.
