Of course. Despite keeping a manual event log, I have found no
correlations.
However, I did find a clue:
$ ls -l /dev/sr0 changes to coincide with the random ejects (tray
opens), but only sometimes! Other times, it changes without an eject.
I rarely use the device. What would be the simplest way to safely
disable it in a start-up script?

As I posted, all worked fine running Lenny and Squeeze. How could it be
hardware?
