To say that #636874 had 'no resolution' is not quite correct; the bug
submitter reported there was no longer an issue with the display. Your
issue may have similar symptoms but a different cause.

Considering it is a new install (done by selecting a DE via d-i, we
assume) you have nothing to lose by reinstalling. Also, the video system
may be the culprit. 'lspci' will give you information on it which you
could post here.
