I suspect flash player in browser might be the cause

The main problems I have with Debian/Testing, apart from the initial rush of new updates after a new stable release goes out, stem from hardware problems. While some apps may have bugs, they don't cause the system to crash.

When you step out of the Debian repositories you do open yourself up to problems. Why not install flash from the official repositories instead? flashplugin-nonfree is in the contrib section.
