That's curious because closing the lid and suspending from menu should 
both trigger the same command unless.... what's the action you have 
configured when closing the lid, to suspend or hibernate?

Looks like the Xorg server is crashing.

Yes, you did: suspend from the menu instead closing the lid ;-)

I would report a kernel oops in Debian BTS, eve more if running sid.
