My 2 cents on this is, that once packages is installed from Debian

Now I got curious because that sound so general. What makes it very
hard? In my experience installing and removing packages has always been
easy in Debian.
The versioning scheme of Deb Multimedia packages is meant to take

What I've found works best is to remove the conflicting packages then install the Debian ones. You'll see the ones when you try to upgrade certain normal Debian programs and they won't install because of the Debian-multimedia libraries. Aptitude works better than apt-get for this.
