When I was running mdadm, I'd usually rebuild initramfs manually after a kernel upgrade. That would include all the necessary drivers into the initrd image.
Make sure you backup your working /boot/initrd.img, then run
# update-initramfs -ut -k 2.6.32-5-amd64
