I would say that you or someone installed Debian 6.0.1, because when Ubuntu 10.04 was out, i think there was not Debian 6.

Anyways it seems like you dropped into a virtual terminal, try to type in your user name, or anything, and in your screen should appear this:

Password:

If it does, maybe your Debian does not have any graphical interface installed, or it is not properly configured.

If you manage to login, you could first check if that's true (by sending the command startx), then install the graphical interface if it is not.

Or maybe reinstall the whole system if you think it's easier.
