I don't know whether this will help, but in case it does, I have had
first class results with DeVeDe. It can take a long time, but you get a
proper DVD menu and everything, and it's really easy.
I have made a number of DVDs from downloaded avi files and the like, and
*none* has failed to play properly in various domestic DVD players.
