It's been a few years since I had the need to solve software problems.
I was not subscribed to this list so excuse the cut-and-paste - keeping
the contents of the problem together

I did a fresh rebuild from " debian-6.0.2.1-i386 " - Too many mods to the old install.

As before, there is no video. An ssh connection was made from a remote machine and I can now talk to it.
(forgot to delete an entry in the ~/.ssh/known_hosts file for the ip address.)

I had the same problem with "lenny" but I could connect to the machine through a terminal login - something that has been eliminated with "squeeze".

So you have a video issue?
Yes, I have a video problem. The problem did not exist with "etch" but did
with "lenny" and appears to have continued on with "squeeze". There may
be some clues in the "etch" distribution as how to solve this one - or maybe not. To make the machine usable, I need to figure out how to connect to the "squeeze" machine throught a local terminal connection. The Xwindow connection may not be an option as Intel has discontinued making the chip some years ago and there may be no interest
I've attached the " Xorg.0.log " and the " dmesg" output. Other than the
one line in "Xorg.0.log", I don't see a problem.

I don't know what the above error is saying.
I haven't used KMS, but after seeing the statement on
   https://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/Kernel_Mode_Setting
looks like I have some research to do.

So you have a video issue? Are you are running X? You may want to try to
disbale KMS but as you are using an intel VGA I'm not sure if that will
work nor what fallback mode would load :-?

You can also review your "/var/log/Xorg.0.log" go get additional
information.
