yo mate,
I'm on all servers (and have about 350 under control) have munin and
nagios set up with notifications etc, usually I know if something is
wrong so early that none of the users can experience any problems (they
are fixed so fast or switched to secondary servers)
so this 2 should be enough for monitoring to be give guarantee that
you're services are available whole the time available you must have
something like HA cluster or so
