There are spam filters - but they don't always work (better a few slip
through than false positives).
Note: subscribing would require and action on your part. As you took no
such action, you were not subscribed. The offer to let you "unsubscribe"
is a weasel action. In my country they can be reported for spamming,
fined and/or jailed. As you are in the USA perhaps you like to report
this ahole ;-p

To stop these spammers:-
1. Don't reward them by giving them more backlinks (ie don't repost
their posts like you did) - remember the contents of this list are
echoed on other lists and google groups.
2. Don't unsubscribe - you weren't subscribed, the list was subscribed,
all you've done is give them your email address. In all probability the
site is a scam - just put up to generate traffic and accumalate a list
of email addresses, for the purposes of selling (site flipping). So
"unsubscribing" even when you are "subscribed" is just rewarding the
lowlifes.
3. Do mark it as spam (eg.
http://lists.debian.org/debian-user/2011/04/msg00990.html and click on
the "Report as Spam" button.
If you feel very strongly about the sort of
*cough*www.facebook.com/people/Sean-Kendorski/1258640127*cough* people
who set up dozens of spammy sites flogging steriods and pushing
affiliate marketing - remember, it is not legal to belt them when you
meet them in person *cough*440 Deer Run Ct, Limerick,

And you probably shouldn't to add their
*cough*skendorski@yahoo.com*cough* email address to the comments on porn
sites.
