The idea was to left only the minimal drives to perform the install (or 
booting the LiveCD), I mean, leaving the hard disk and one of the optical 
units (test it with the two units, first disconnect one and then the 
other). In addition to disconnect the cable, you can also disable that 
port from BIOS just to ensure it is not detected by the installer.

Avoid using a CD/DVD as medium and try from an USB key :-?
