I had an issue while installing via USB flash drive.

I could boot from the usb, select language etc etc, but somewhere when the installer tries to mount the "cd-rom", it failed! The installer doesn't know that I'm installing from a usb.

Maybe a bad media or bad cable? As an alternative, you can try by 
creating an USB boot disk.

Since Squeeze, it is very easy to make an USB flash drive from where to 
start the installation (instructions can be found here¹).

cat debian-6.0.0-i386-netinst.iso > /dev/sdX
***

Where "X" has to match the assignement for your USB device. You can 
get its value by running "dmesg" once you plug the flash drive (remember 
that all the data on the USB flash will be destroyed).

Wait until it finishes and issue:

***
sync
***

And then boot from the USB. That's all.
