The ST32000641AS is sata3---this will not work in a sata2 board. you will have
to buy a sata 3 pci-e card to run it.
Sata3 is backwards compatible to sata2 but not the other wat around.

Well, they can't both be "backwards" compatible, can they? They are "compatible" though, AFAIK. The SATA3 drive will just fall back to an older SATA2-compatible operating mode, that's all.
