I ran across the solution to this and thought I would share it.  

By default Debian systems are not configured to have processes monitored by SNMP but it can be enabled by editing the /etc/snmp/snmpd.conf file.  To do so look for the Process checks section about a third of the way down in the file and to monitor autofs you would enter something like this:

proc automount

You can do something more sophisticated if you wish but it is not necessary.  There is plenty of documentation within the snmpd.conf file that you really don't have to go anywhere else for more information in most applications.  

Once again the Debian developers have made it so blatantly obvious that I completely missed it.  I am sure the package maintainer is shaking their fist at the sky yelling, "Just how simple do I have to make it!"

Debian is the best.
