I'm not sure what you mean by "instructions for invoking the old stack".
I plug in the USB drive as sdd1, I have an appropriate entry in fstab

/dev/sdd1	/q		ntfs	rw,user,noauto	0	0

so I mount it as /q and can store files on it.
