b43, pump, &&

hi list,

on a very old laptop, an evo n115, i installed a very lean squeeze daily build without any problem. i inserted a wireless network controller bcm4318, 802.11g (rev 02) (lspci) and installed wireless-tools and firmware-b43-installer. so far so good.

sudo iwlist wlan0 scan (after sudo ifconfig wlan0 up) gives a list of wireless devices in my neighbourhood. sudo ifconfig wlan0 up tells me that firmware version b43-phy0 is loaded but that link is not ready: *ADDCONF (NETDEV_UP): wlan0: link is not ready*. sudo pump -i wlan0 tells: operation failed and a small program like wifi-radar cannot find (in a test with consent of one of my neighbours) an IP-address.

what to do to get the broadcom device going: so that browsing the internet is possible?
btw: what should i do eventually in /etc/network/interfaces??
in /etc/udev/rules.d/70-persistent-net.rules i can see the *pci device (b43)*

thank you in advance for your advice!

regards,

steef
