There are packages lacking a maintainer and are dropped. Not sure what 
happened to "star" but seems to be unavailable for stable/testing/sid 
standard ports :-?

What I do in these situations is looking for a similar utility featuring 
the same functionalities I was used to with the older one. 

You said you were using "star" to check the integrity of the burned CD. 
Maybe you can use md5sum files to get this or "tar --verify" option, 
although not sure if this will work with CD media :-?
