sid: Packages held back during upgrade

I just did an apt-get upgrade. Hundreds of packages
were held back. I suspect that some packages 
I installed manually with checkinstall may
be responsible.

I've seen some warnings before about them, but I don't
know which they all are.

My question is in two parts:

1. How can I list which packages were manually installed?

2. How can I change their status to allow the regular
Debian dependency chain to take precedence?
