I'll second that. There are roughly about 25 *thousand* packages in Debian, so it's more practical to search them by name on the Debian site than it is to list them in extenso. Anyhow, as already said, you just need the first DVD in order to install a pretty complete Debian system, with Gnome desktop and all. If you happen to need any exotic packages (such as, say, ndiswrapper, or some wireless firmware, or the like), and do have a working Internet connection, the installer will download them for you on-the-fly. If you don't have a working Internet connection, you'll have to download such packages beforehand, from the Debian site (search 'package name'). It's advisable to provide a working Internet connection to the Debian Installer if at all possible, though. It makes things *so* much easier...
