fsck.ext3 -c  - do a read-only badblock test

Thank you for your reply . I tried as the followings :
#umount -f -l /dev/hda3
#fsck.ext3 -c /dev/hda3
But it is returning as "Running e2fsck on a mounted filesystem may cause servere damage" . Can I continue this way ?
