Are you using GRUB as your boot loader? It looks like your /boot/grub
directory has gone missing, which would be pretty serious. (Check your
root filesystem for errors and the SMART information of your hard disk
for signs of failure.)

If you are not using GRUB then it might be enough to remove the
postinst_hook call to update-grub from /etc/kernel-img.conf.
