Well, I did figure out the initial problem that I cited (I needed a
newer version of automake, I think), but, well, the whole process kept
requiring more and more packages. It reminded me of the old days of
dependency hell. So, my little experiment with debian's source
packages, inspired by
http://www.debian.org/doc/manuals/apt-howto/ch-sourcehandling.en.html,
wherein it states "Another common use of Debian sources is to adapt a
more recent version of a program, from the unstable distribution, for
example, for use with the stable distribution," is over. Heck, it'd be
easier for me to just upgrade my entire OS to get the newer version of
iceweasel, rather than keep trying to "adapt a more recent version of a
program" via what is described at the site.

Anyway, I believe I will stick with that old adage: if it ain't broke,
don't fix it. Stable works fine for me.

Mark
