openoffice.org won't open files on my usb drive

Hi,

When I try and open a word file on my usb drive with openoffice.org here
on debian squeez, I get this error:
Openoffice.org: The file has been locked by unknown user. 
Open read only
Open a copy.

So, how can i stop it from saying this so I can edit files again on my
usb with oo?
