Here's the Synaptic log entry --
Installed the following packages:
binutils (2.18.1~cvs20080103-7)
gcc-4.3 (4.3.2-1.1)
libc6-dev (2.7-18)
libgomp1 (4.3.2-1.1)
linux-libc-dev (2.6.26-17)

'which gcc' doesn't return anything.
'whereis gcc' returns '/usr/lib/gcc /usr/local/gcc'
