how to ifup -a an addressless interface

Hi!

Can I somehow just edit my interfaces file, so when I run ifup -a, it will 
only bring up the device, without any addresses configured?
(I can not use the static keyword, because then I must provide an address and 
whatnot, and I can not use the manual keyword either, because then ifup won't 
bring up the device).

Any advice would be appreciated!
