Have you ever modified the partition table to increase the size of
the partition? If yes, then I assume you did not recreate the array
then and since the superblock is stored at the end of the space,
you wouldn't notice, given that your /var partition seems to be the
last.
Have you made a backup?
Does it work if you unmount /var and then try
mdadm --grow --size=max /dev/md6
and then xfs_grow or whatever it's called for XFS?
