If you have some data unformatted, still lying in your harddisk, you
can try the following tools:

I recovered my 6years old data from a harddisk whose ext3 partitions
was mangled due to hardware failure, using these tools last week after
looking at various mechanisms, but in my case I was pretty sure that
my data is not formatted.
