Me neither, i was just shooting blanks :) You say you installed the
system (repeatedly), so i assume you got as far as "Let's reboot into
your new system". I never had a system failing at that point... It's
hard to guess: your boot-loader config? The MBR's messed up?

Don't know what you mean by "gnome live cd", anyway i suggested the
liveCD from Linux From Scratch[1], which is meant as a base for
building a linux distro: thus, it only has the bare essencials (no X)
and is good for troubleshooting.
