You know the usual rules about fsck'ing a mounted file system?

ext4 reduces to ext3, or even ext2 as long as you haven't use extents 
(and the journal's reasonably clean).

So yes.

Haven't they added ext4 to the fsprogs?  Is there not a fsck.ext4?
