I was in a LaQuinta hotel recently when that happened to me. Nothing,
and I mean NOTHING, I could do would get the transparent proxy to
finish. It went into a loop and just stayed there, in Konqueror and
Firefox.

Luckily, I had XP through VirtualBox, and while Firefox _also_ failed
in exactly the same way, Internet Exploder was able to inspire the
proxy process to complete itself successfully.

Once the authentication process was completed, the system worked just
fine without needing Windows running.

I'm sure that my later email to LaQuinta on the subject was
intercepted by their spam filter for gross abuse of expletives.
