or update xorg.conf

dpkg-reconfigure xserver-xorg

or 

vi /etc/X11/xorg.conf 

comment the lines in Section "Modes" out, that you don't want to have and in 
Section "Device" if present the Option      "MetaModes"

this way xrandr will see only those resolutions as options, as far as I know
from my tests
