Hi Raman,
I'm also running Lenny but my current version of Python is 2.4.4-6. I don't
know why it wants to install the 2.5.2 version for you. Also note the
following warning about smartpm:

This project is in beta testing. Please, understand that bugs are expected
to be found at that stage, and there are features that still must be
implemented in the forthcoming future.

Also, kpackage does not require smartpm. Version 4:3.5.9-2 of kpackage only
suggests rpm what it does not require it. Why not just install kpackage and
forget about smartpm?
